We are stoked that you want to be part of our community. Stories are told through all mediums of art and we try to create accessible space for all mediums. Our team carefully reviews each submission and we look forward to being in contact.
Note: The Walnut Branch and Walnut Branch: YA is where we home other works of art, including short fiction, poetry, audio, and visual arts. Follow this link to submit there.
What we are looking for:
- Poetry
- Children’s Literature
- Young Adult Literature
- Southern Literature
- Anything else that excites us–just because your genre isn’t listed here, doesn’t mean you can’t submit it.
While we are always open to fresh, new voices, we have a few preferences for pieces that align with our current priorities as a publisher:
- We generally do not publish manuscripts larger than 75,000 words.
- We generally do not publish nonfiction.
When you submit:
- We prefer a .doc, docx. or pdf. submission, but linking to your work through Google Drive or another cloud service is fine; just make sure we have access to the file.
- We don’t require any specific manuscript formatting; in general, a 12-point font and a readable script like Times New Roman or Calibri helps us in our reviews.

- We aim to respond to all submissions within four to eight weeks. We’re a small company, so we ask for your patience if we take longer.
