Welcome to The Art Friends Market: a monthly market at The Chattanooga Choo Choo Gardens for the community, by artists, with artists.
At Walnut Street Publishing and across all our creative collaborations, our mission has always been clear: put artists first. We believe artists are the heart of a thriving, connected community, and they deserve opportunities that reflect that value. From hosting free events and exhibits to publishing local voices, we’re constantly asking: How can we support artists better?
That question is exactly what sparked the creation of The Art Friends Market.
The Vision: A Truly Artist-Forward Market
When local artist Michael Lardizabal approached us about starting a new community market, we immediately said yes—his passion for cultivating safe, supportive, creative spaces aligned perfectly with our goals. We also knew we wanted someone with a heart for people and an eye for detail to help bring this vision to life, so we reached out to Christen McNelley, an artist known for her beautiful work and for how she shows up for other artists.
Together, we dreamed up The Art Friends Market—an art market that removes barriers, encourages connection, and creates real opportunities for creatives at any stage of their journey.
What Makes AFM Different?
The Art Friends Market is intentionally designed to reduce pressure and maximize joy for artists. Here’s how:
- There are no upfront booth fees. Artists pay after the market using a 70/30 split (you keep 70% of your sales, and we take 30%), capped at $60 max.
That means if you have a slow day, you won’t have to pay out of pocket. If you have a great day, your booth fee is still fair and fixed. - Sharing booths is not only allowed—it’s encouraged. Bring a friend, split the space, and make it your own.
- Market Mentors are available for anyone new to selling at markets. This is a beginner-friendly space, and we’ll make sure you feel confident and supported.
- There’s an artist huddle before the market opens so vendors can meet, chat, and feel part of a creative team rather than just a lineup of vendors.
- We’re planning fun extras for the community like scavenger hunts, yoga, and free massages because art should be experienced, celebrated, and felt.
- And no, you don’t have to stay all day. We know life happens, and early breakdowns are totally okay.
Why It Matters
The Art Friends Market is a reflection of what can happen when artists support each other, when community is prioritized, and when creativity is given room to breathe.
We’re building something special here and want you to be a part of it.
Whether this is your first time selling your work or your fiftieth, we hope you’ll feel at home at The Art Friends Market.
