At Walnut Street Publishing, we believe in the power of community and the profound impact that mentorship can have on a young person’s life. That’s why we’re thrilled to partner with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Chattanooga, an organization dedicated to helping children achieve their fullest potential through meaningful, one-on-one mentoring relationships.

Right now, 84 children—known as “Littles”—are in our community waiting for a mentor, or “Big.” These children come from diverse backgrounds and experiences, but they all have one thing in common: they’re looking for someone to guide them, support them, and help them dream big. That’s where you come in.

Why Volunteer?

Becoming a big brother or big sister is a life-changing opportunity, not just for the child you’ll mentor but also for you. Here’s why you should consider stepping up:

  • Empower a Child: Mentorship has been shown to improve academic performance, build self-esteem, and encourage positive life choices. By spending just a few hours each month with your little, you can help them discover their strengths and create a brighter future.
  • Build a Lifelong Connection: Many big-little matches develop bonds that last a lifetime. Whether it’s sharing hobbies, exploring new interests, or simply being a listening ear, your presence can make an enduring difference.
  • Give Back to Your Community: When you volunteer, you’re not just helping one child; you’re helping build a stronger, more supportive community for everyone.

What Does Being a Big Look Like?

Volunteering with BBBS is flexible and rewarding. Bigs and Littles typically meet a few times a month for activities like going to the park, visiting a museum, working on homework together, or simply grabbing a bite to eat. BBBS provides training, resources, and ongoing support to ensure you feel confident and equipped to be a great mentor.
