Stressed Out & Scatterbrained is a collection of poems and illustrations that merge together the gritty entrance to the “real world” and humorous recounts of those human experiences that follow. Captured in both relatable as well as unusual scenarios, the rhyming stories were written in real time over 10 years (saved on crumpled sheets of paper and obscure notebooks) after the writer moved to New York City from Alabama.
Topics cover subway mishaps, lost keys, new friends, job hunting, dating, and occurrences of loneliness amidst searching for oneself. Yet, spotted throughout, are stories of discovering resilient ways to stay happy through all of life’s punches.
self-doubt, self-deprecation, nervousness, hopefulness, ambition, anxiety, fear, love, and more
